If there is a problem in the liver for less than eight weeks for any reason, it is considered short-term, and if it becomes more complicated, it is a long-term problem. People with liver damage (alcoholic cirrhosis) due to alcoholism, people with long-term active infections (hepatitis B and C), people with congenital liver and bile duct malformations (viliary artesia) and people with acute liver failure, i.e. sudden liver failure for any reason.
