One cause of autism is having children at a late age
Lately, the age of marriage is being pushed back. It is customary to get married at a late age and have children only after matrimonial life has matured. But doctors say that a certain age is good for conception. They say that when planning a child at a late age, various problems will appear in the mother and the child.
Development Pediatrician Dr. Anil Ojha says.
"After having a child late, the first problem may be that the child does not live. Even if the child is disabled, there is a possibility of being slow, while the mother may also develop problems such as diabetes and pressure, he says.
Also, giving birth at a late age may increase the risk of autism in the child. However, it has not yet been discovered that this is the cause of autism. But it can appear for genetic and environmental reasons, which hinders the development of the brain of the child growing in the womb. Ojha says.
Autism is called autism spectrum disorder in medical language. It is a developmental disorder, due to which the affected person has difficulty speaking, reading, writing and socializing," he says. "Autism is a condition in which the brain of the person suffering from it works differently from the brain of other people. People suffering from autism are also different from each other. This means that different patients of autism may experience different symptoms.
Why is there a risk of autism when having a child at a late age?
Women carry certain eggs in their uterus at birth. Those eggs are gradually depleted with age. After 30 to 35 years, eggs start decreasing. In women after 35 years, there is a lack of necessary hormones and eggs, and the quality of eggs decreases. In this case, there is a genetic change in the egg. As a result, there is a risk of chromosomal problems such as Down syndrome, autism, etc. Ojha says.
Dr. Anil Ojha
He says, "The risk of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid also increases in women as they age." There is a risk of causing various problems in mother and child due to such problems.
Various studies have also shown that having a child at a late age increases the risk of autism. A study conducted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York has revealed that the increasing age of parents increases the risk of autism in children.
According to the researchers, the rate of autism has been found to increase by 66 percent in children born to fathers over 50 years of age, while the rate of autism has increased by 28 percent in children born to fathers between 40 and 50 years of age.
Children born to mothers in their 40s and 50s had a 15 percent higher rate of autism than children born to mothers in their 20s and 30s.
According to Xiaobin Wang, the lead author of this study conducted by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, obesity and diabetes are not good for pregnant women. The neurodevelopment of children who develop in women suffering from both problems can be affected for a long time.
In this research, about 2,734 mothers and their children were studied from 1998 to 2014. During the study, around 100 children were found to have autism spectrum disorder caused by obesity and diabetes. According to M. Daniel Fallin, another author of this study, the risk of autism starts in the fetus.
Autism cannot be diagnosed in the womb
It is not possible to find out if the child has autism until the child talks to others and responds by listening to others. In this case, this problem is not detected when the baby is still in the stomach. Autism cannot be detected by any test. After the birth of the child, this problem can be detected only by observing his behavior and symptoms. Ojha says.
Other causes of autism in children
Autism is also possible in children with Down syndrome. If the mother has high blood pressure, thyroid problem during pregnancy, the child may be at risk of autism. Ojha says. "If the mother consumes cigarettes and alcohol during pregnancy, the child born from her is also likely to have autism," he says.
If the baby is born prematurely or if the baby has to be kept in the ICU or ventilator for a long time after birth, this problem can be seen in them. Due to the side-effects of some medicines taken by the mother during pregnancy, the child may have autism. Ojha says.
Autism is not a disability, it is a special condition of the brain. Just because autism is not a disease does not mean it can be cured with medication. The main treatment is therapy, especially behavioral therapy. Ojha says.
Children with autism can be given physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, behavioral therapy, naturopathy therapy, etc. Through these therapies, the physical and mental abilities of children with autism are developed. If the right treatment is given, the symptoms can be controlled and to a large extent such people can live a normal life," said Dr. Jha says.
The problem of autism remains throughout life, so the child should be protected from this problem by paying attention to the factors that cause this problem. Talk to a doctor before planning a child's autism prevention plan Dr. to discuss necessary tests and family history. Ojha suggests.
Planning to have a child at a late age increases the risk of autism in the child. So you should plan to give birth at the right age. Also, do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, eat nutritious foods during pregnancy, only then the child's brain will develop properly and the risk of autism will be reduced. Ojha says.
