What is the anti-aging treatment that has become a hot topic after Shefali Jariwala's death?
The reason behind Shefali Jariwala's death on June 28 is still unclear.
The police are investigating by collecting samples of her medicines and injections.
Despite famous actresses promoting natural beauty and a healthy lifestyle, the talk of anti-aging treatments has intensified.
The reason behind Bollywood actress Shefali Jariwala's sudden death at the age of 42 is yet to be ascertained.
Some police officials involved in the investigation into her death said that Shefali was taking various medicines, including anti-aging tablets. It is possible that she took these medicines on an empty stomach, which caused her blood pressure to suddenly drop.
According to a police officer, Shefali had taken an injection on the afternoon of June 28, which was probably an anti-aging injection.
According to the police officer, her family members took her to the hospital after her blood pressure dropped sharply and she felt cold.
Shefali Jariwala was taken to Bellevue Multi-Speciality Hospital in Andheri on the night of June 28, where doctors declared her dead. The police received the information at 1 am and then sent her body to Kapoor Hospital for postmortem.
According to the police, “The Amboli police have so far recorded the statements of 12 people, including Shefali’s husband, parents and a domestic helper. All of them were at home at the time. However, nothing suspicious has been found so far.”
During the investigation, a police team along with forensic experts went to her house and collected samples of various materials. This also includes Shefali’s medicines and injections.
It is not confirmed whether Shefali was actually taking anti-ageing treatment or not. But the discussion on anti-ageing treatment has intensified after her death.
What did famous actresses say?
After the death of Shefali Jariwala, actress Mallika Sherawat shared a video on Instagram and advised her fans to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
She said, “I have not used any filters, I have not worn any makeup. I have not even done my hair. I am sharing this video with you so that we all learn to say ‘no’ to Botox, artificial cosmetic fillers and ‘yes’ to a healthy lifestyle.”
Similarly, in an interview, actress Kareena Kapoor also said, “I am against Botox.” However, she was talking about the challenges that actresses face as they age and was asked if she is also afraid of wrinkles and aging.
In this, Kareena said, “I am against Botox, I am in favor of taking care of myself, which means staying healthy, feeling good, this is natural therapy. It is also about protecting yourself and your talent because this is my weapon. It means taking time off from time to time, spending time with family and friends, doing something different from what you do on the set. Not getting involved in needles and surgeries.’
However, both these actresses did not mention Shefali Jariwala’s name in their statements, but these statements that came after her death have been linked to it.
What is anti-aging treatment?
As we age, lines and wrinkles start appearing on our faces, and the skin on our faces also starts to sag. However, to prevent this, cosmetic surgery, injectable fillers, Botox, etc. have become popular these days.
Anti-aging treatment consists of a combination of certain drugs and their compounds that help slow down the effects of aging.
The most popular of all is Botox, which is a powerful injection that relaxes our muscles in small parts. Botox can be used to reduce forehead lines or lines around the eyes, lines around the nose.
The Food and Drug Administration approved its use in cosmetic procedures more than 22 years ago.
Dr. Debraj Shome, senior cosmetic surgeon at The Aesthetic Clinics, said at an event that dermal fillers are injections that are given under the skin. They are made from the same substances that our skin cells are made from.
He said, “With age, collagen in the skin starts to decrease, but with the help of fillers, collagen is restored and the face starts to look younger.”
Similarly, many people also use glutathione injections for anti-aging. It is an antioxidant that works to prevent damage to our body’s cells. Glutathione is usually taken through injections and tablets.
Dr. Anju Jha, senior consultant at the dermatology department at Kailash Hospital, said, “Glutathione is already present in our body. But with age, the body produces less glutathione. So it is taken externally. It is also believed that those who take glutathione get some improvement in their skin tone. If glutathione is taken through injections, the results are considered better. But it also has side effects. It is not approved by the FDA.’
How safe is this treatment?
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dr. Rishi Parashar, Chairman, Department of Dermatology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, says, ‘With a few exceptions, such injections have been proven safe so far. But the most important thing is that they should be taken only under the supervision of a registered dermatologist.’
The same news also states that the discussion about the risks of Botox intensified in April 2022 when the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning saying that 22 women aged 22 to 65 had adverse reactions to Botox.
Of these, 11 had to be hospitalized and 6 had a condition where the toxins administered through Botox spread to the nervous system. This is a condition that can be fatal.
Dr. Parashar said, “It has been proven that all these women had received injections from unlicensed or untrained people in places that were not even health centers.”
Dr. Anju Jha said about the risks of these drugs, “The reason the FDA did not approve glutathione is that it has some side effects. It can cause anaphylaxis in some patients, and injectable drugs can cause diseases like Steven Johnson. These are conditions that arise from drug reactions, which can be fatal. However, this is very rare.’
She says that the effect of these drugs on those who use them to lighten or whiten the skin lasts as long as they continue taking it. The effect does not last forever.
Dr. Anju says, ‘How much of the drug is being taken and whether it should be taken or not is very important. There is no pre-existing problem, which these drugs will aggravate. For all this, the advice of a good dermatologist is needed.’
Such drugs do not cause heart attacks. But sometimes, when the dose is taken in excess, it can affect the liver and kidneys. There are such indirect effects. Therefore, the treatment should be done by a specialist who knows which muscle to inject and how much. It should not be done by yourself, not even in a parlor, and not even by a doctor who is not knowledgeable about this subject.
