After the teen suicide case, ChatGPT is getting a new feature!
OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT is getting a new parental control feature. The feature is said to be added after a complaint was filed against 16-year-old Adam Raine, who lives in California, USA, claiming that ChatGPT encouraged him to commit suicide.
According to international media, Adam's parents, Matthew Raine and Maria Raine, filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its founder Sam Altman in San Francisco State Court on August 26. They accused ChatGPT of teaching and encouraging suicide. They said that the company prioritized its own profits and ignored the safety of users. They are asking the court to award compensation and enforce safety regulations.
According to international media, OpenAI is conducting safety tests for difficult situations. In a blog post published on August 27 and 28, OpenAI said that ChatGPT is preparing to roll out updates that aim to “help people get help when they need it most.” OpenAI also acknowledged that ChatGPT previously had a feature that directed people to suicide prevention helplines, but that the feature would become weak during long conversations.
According to technology experts, adding parental control features to ChatGPT is not only a technological improvement but also a part of social and ethical responsibility. Such a feature is expected to make AI safer for teenage users.
